Navigating the Backlash Against Global Law and Institutions: Perspectives from the Heartland

On October 14–15, Indiana University hosts the second in a series of three workshops on the subject of navigating the backlash against global law and institutions, spanning Australia, Indiana, and Maryland.

Keynote Speaker

Justice Michael Kirby

Michael Kirby was a Justice of the High Court of Australia, the nation's highest court, between 1996–2009. During this period he served on the advisory board of the Kinsey Institute of Indiana University. He has also served on a number of United Nations and other international human rights bodies. These have included as Commissioner of the WHO Global Commission on AIDS (1988–92); Special Representative of the Secretary General United Nations for Human Rights in Cambodia (1993–96); Commissioner of the UNDP Global Commission on HIV and the Law (2011–12); Chair Of the UN Human Rights Council's Commission of Inquiry on human rights violations in North Korea (2013–14); and most recently as a member of the Secretary General's High-Level Panel on Access to Essential Health Technologies (2015-16).
