Note on CEUS-T classes: While these are the only foreign language courses offered for pre-enrollment this year, they are only a small subset of the possible languages you can take at IU Bloomington to fulfill various requirements. If you are unsure whether or not one of these languages is a good fit for your academic plans and interests, you can wait to select a language until you meet with an academic advisor at New Student Orientation.
Degree Requirements
To graduate from Indiana University, students must complete the requirements set out by 1) the department in which they pursue their major, 2) the school or college to which the department belongs, and 3) the campus within which the department and its school/college reside.
The acronyms that include “BA or BS” refer to the requirements for the majors offered by the four departments within HLS:
"CASE" is an acronym for College of Arts and Science Education requirements, which the College uses to distinguish its specific degree requirements from those of other Indiana University Bloomington schools (Kelley, Jacobs, Public, and Environmental Affairs, Public Health, etc.) and from the requirements of the campus-wide General Education program. The College's degree requirements are well-aligned with the General Education program, but they are not identical. The Hamilton Lugar School and all its departments are part of the College of Arts and Sciences. Acronyms for the CASE requirements in this chart refer to:
- Breadth of Inquiry: Arts and Humanities (AH) and Social and Historical Studies (SH)
- Culture Studies: Global Civilizations and Cultures (GCC)
- Foreign Language (FL)
“IUB Gen Ed” is an acronym for the Indiana University Bloomington General Education requirements, which all students at the IU Bloomington campus must complete regardless of major, school, or college. Acronyms for the IUB GenEd requirements in this chart refer to
