Description of the video:
At Indiana University’s Hamilton Lugar School of Global and International Studies, our mission is to foster enlightened global engagement to advance the public good.
Our vision for 2030 is to be the leading school of our kind in the Midwest and one of the best nationally.
Our strategy is to build on three distinctive strengths:
- our fusion of international affairs with language and area studies,
- our unique blend of academic and professional training, and
- our leadership in civil discourse and public service.
To reach our goals, we are adding to our outstanding faculty and staff, investing in research on key global issues, and using our language and area studies expertise to show how those issues affect real people in real places.
We are offering new academic and professional training to students, on and off campus, to prepare them for top jobs and fellowships – giving them the knowledge to analyze complex real-world problems and the practical skills to make a positive difference.
And we are reaching out to serve the state and nation and contribute to conversations on pressing global issues, in part by modeling constructive engagement right here, where we want every member of the Hamilton Lugar community to walk through the door knowing that they are welcome, valued, and respected.
In all of these ways, we’re following the examples of our namesakes, Rep. Lee Hamilton and Sen. Richard Lugar, showing the power of principled engagement and the pursuit of mutual understanding.
I hope you will read more about our school and our strategy. With your support, we’re confident that we can make our 2030 vision a reality.
At Indiana University’s Hamilton Lugar School of Global and International Studies, our mission is to foster enlightened global engagement to advance the public good. Our vision is to be the leading hub for global and international studies in the Midwest and one of the top schools nationally by building on three distinctive strengths:
- our fusion of international affairs with language and area studies;
- our cultivation of professional skills alongside broad academic knowledge; and
- our commitment to civil discourse and public service.
We aim to be a school where scholars, students, and practitioners from around the world come eager to engage, learn, and serve, empowered by the knowledge that they are welcome, valued, and respected. To achieve that vision, we have developed a strategy that aligns with IU 2030 and that is organized around the three pillars below.
Integrating International Affairs and Area Studies
Building Academic and Professional Skills
Fostering Civil Discourse and Public Service
Securing Support for Our Strategy
Meeting these priorities will require strong financial support. We will pursue continued grants from Federal agencies including the Departments of Education, State, and Defense, which provide vital funds and mark IU and the Hamilton Lugar School as a crucial national hub for language and area studies training. We will seek more large grants from official agencies and foundations to enable interdisciplinary faculty-led research. Above all, we will engage individual and institutional partners in Indiana, across the United States, and abroad to seek support for our students and academic programs. With these steps, we are confident that we can make our 2030 vision a reality.
