COP30 in Belem, Brazil — Fall 2025

This fall, a delegation of IU students are attending the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change meetings in November 2025 in Belem, Brazil (COP30)! 

During the Fall 2025 semester, students will participate in a seminar structured around the Articles of the Paris Agreement and navigating the UNFCCC meetings, as well as Brazilian culture and environmental policy. Students will hone expertise in a selected climate topic, prepare literature reviews and white papers, and then travel to the 30th Conference of Parties* in Belem where they will conduct observations and interviews with climate negotiators. 

Requirements

To participate in this course, students must: 

  • Enroll in INTL-I 434/525 for the fall semester plus an additional 1-credit study abroad class
  • Have a GPA of 3.0 or above

Costs:

Course fee: $1,000 + $225 International Program fee, which includes: 

  • Lodging
  • Conference participation
  • Travel insurance

Students are expected to pay for the following:

  • Round trip flight
  • Meals
  • Some ground transportation
  • Luggage fees

There are multiple options for financial aid and students demonstrating financial need will have their costs met, covering up to 100% of the course fee.
