Scholarships for Incoming Undergraduate Students
After admission, you will be invited to complete the General Application by February 1. For greatest scholarship consideration, you must submit a complete admissions application by November 1, and list a Hamilton Lugar School major as your intended program of study.
Incoming student scholarships
Jean Creek earned his medical degree from IU in 1952. One of Creek's friends and patients was Herman B. Wells. He also served as the team doctor for the IU football and men's basketball teams. Both he and Doris are native Hoosiers who value the importance of a global education.

The Shreve Scholars Program provides undergraduate scholarships for students from the state of Indiana. This scholarship program recognizes students who have demonstrated a strong commitment to understanding contemporary and global issues in critical regions of the world.

Hannah Buxbaum is a professor at the Indiana University Maurer School of Law and was appointed vice president for international affairs at IU in 2018. As vice president, Buxbaum promotes global engagement at IU across all aspects of the university’s mission. This scholarship was created to support students who have aspirations of pursuing a career in international affairs.

Richard Woosnam created this scholarship to provide funding for undergraduate or graduate students as part of the school’s renaming in honor of Rep. Lee Hamilton and the late Sen. Richard Lugar. Woosnam holds a J.D. from the Indiana University School of Law, and an M.B.A. and a B.S. from IU’s Kelley School of Business. During his undergraduate years, Woosnam was a member of the IU Student Foundation Steering Committee and the Union Board.

Irene W. Meister is a renowned expert in international trade, law, and economics. Earning degrees from Indiana University and the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, Meister has advocated that American businesses, politicians, and the general public must be prepared for the coming internationalization of our economy. Students who receive this award must maintain a record of academic excellence and have financial need.

Invitations for the General Application are sent on a rolling basis, and the application closes on February 1.
Incoming students who have been admitted to IU Bloomington and have indicated a Hamilton Lugar School major on their application are eligible to apply.
Decisions will be sent on a rolling basis between February 1 – March 15. Only selected scholarship recipients will hear a decision. If you do not receive communication before May 1, you have not been selected for a scholarship. Decisions will be emailed to the email address submitted on your scholarship application and a letter will be mailed to the address on your IU application. Be sure to continuously check your email inbox and spam folder. Emails will come from hlsscho@iu.edu.
You have until May 1 to accept/decline your scholarship offer. You may accept or decline your scholarship by submitting the Intent to Enroll form or Application Cancellation form at intenttoenroll.indiana.edu.
If you change your major to one outside of the Hamilton Lugar School, then you will no longer be considered for our scholarships. If you change your major to a different one within the Hamilton Lugar School, you will still be considered for our scholarships.
The number of recipients depends on scholarship availability.
Our incoming student scholarships are renewable four-year awards. They are divided and dispersed each fall and spring semester you are enrolled (up to eight semesters or four years). Funds are posted to your bursar account by August (fall semester) and by January (spring semester).
Students admitted to Indiana University Bloomington may defer enrollment up to one year. If a student completes the deferral process by the deadline, eligibility for our incoming student scholarships will carry forward. Once you complete the form and enroll in fulltime coursework for the new enrollment semester, your original scholarship offer should appear on your account that same semester. Please keep us notified if you decide to defer.
