Poland: University of Warsaw

HLS students can participate in either the fall or spring semester.

The University of Warsaw Faculty of Political Science and International Studies offers English language courses in four academic programs:

• International relations
• Political Science
• European Studies and Economics
• Social and Public Policy

Courses include:

• Social movements in Europe
• International protection of human rights
• Migration policy
• International and regional organizations

The University of Warsaw offers 2,500 places in six dormitories situated in various parts of Warsaw; housing is prioritized for international and exchange students. Each residence hall has a quiet study lounge, a TV room, a computer room and a laundry facility. The monthly rent ranges from EUR 75 to 160 (PLN 315-670) per person, depending on the type of the room.

You may apply if you:

• are an admitted HLS major or minor
• have at least a 3.0 cumulative and HLS GPA; 3.2 GPA preferred
• have met with your HLS advisor
• have met with the HLS semester exchange coordinator: schedule at hlsep@iu.edu

Students must have a passport valid for six months beyond program's end date.

Students must be able to demonstrate flexibility, resilience, and self-reliance. 

Complete eligibility criteria and selection criteria are outlined within the Academic Policies and Procedures of Education Abroad. Selection is based on maturity, seriousness of purpose, and appropriateness of match between program and applicant.

Students on disciplinary probation during program period are ineligible.

Students accepted into the exchange program through HLS will be nominated for admission to University of Warsaw. Once approved by UW, students will be invited to submit a full application.

All HLS students will be enrolled in a group health insurance plan through Indiana University's provider, GeoBlue. A fee will be charged to your bursar bill.

All applicants from non-EU countries need a visa to study in Warsaw. In order to obtain a visa, all students must apply at the embassy or consulate of Poland at least 2 months before their planned date of departure. The closest consulate to Bloomington is in Chicago.

As an exchange student, HLS students will pay their regular tuition to IU. They are eligible to receive their regular financial aid and scholarships.

To participate in an exchange program, there are a few additional charges students can expect:

• Health insurance (approx. $40 p/month)
• Education Abroad Service Fee (approx. $250)

Students will also be expected to pay for the following

• International airfare and travel to/from the airport
• Visa/immigration fees
• Housing costs (approx. 500-700 Euro)
• Groceries/meals (approx. 450-700 Euro)
• Personal expenses, books and incidentals (approx. 200-500 Euro)
