Design your program of study

The Ph.D. program consists of 90 credit hours of coursework from the Department of Middle Eastern Languages of Cultures, as well as approved related departments. Additionally, you will select a minor in an outside department or program to complement your research interests.

Language study

Developing language expertise is a core part of the Ph.D. program. Three non-English languages are required—a major MELC language (normally Arabic, Hebrew, Persian, or Turkish), a minor MELC language, and a European research language (such as French, German, or Spanish).
