Two degree options

We offer MA and MS degree programs in International Studies. There is a core set of requirements for both degrees, including international studies courses, language training, and the development of a regional/area focus.

While there are similarities between the two degrees, the MS focuses on using data to address issues in international studies, including the economics of development or quantitative approaches to political analysis. The degree track also requires an internationally focused internship or practicum.

Financial aid

Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) fellowships support undergraduate and graduate students around the country, helping them develop knowledge and expertise in critical languages and cultures.

The Hamilton Lugar School provides more FLAS fellowships than any other school in the country and houses eight FLAS centers:

  • African Studies Program
  • Center for the Study of Global Change
  • Center for the Study of the Middle East
  • Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies
  • East Asian Studies Center
  • Inner Asian & Uralic National Resource Center
  • Islamic Studies Program
  • Russian & East European Institute
