Students with an M.A. in European Studies have landed careers in a wide range of fields, including the government, the nonprofit sector, politics, education, research, and business.
Students entering the program have the flexibility to tailor their course of study to their interests. You will graduate well-prepared for a variety of career paths in government, nonprofit, and private sector work. For others, the M.A. in European Studies degree is the next step towards doctoral studies.
Many Foreign Area Officers (FAOs) successfully complete the program—in fact, nearly one-third of all M.A. in European Studies alums are FAOs who serve as military attachés in American embassies in Europe.
Students often complement their master's degree by studying a European language—we offer more than 25 to choose from.
You can also add proficiency in a second area language at IU’s Summer Language Workshop, which is the largest in the world.
