Tianrui began studying Arabic as an undergraduate in China. At HLS, Tianrui is completing the coursework for his Ph.D .and studying Persian as well as the art of translation. He loves the challenge of translating from Arabic into English, because, he explains, “for me, it’s translating from one non-native language to another non-native language.” In fact, though, Arabic has become such an integral part of his character that when he composes his own poetry, it’s in Arabic.
