Application

Submit an application to participate in our Hamilton Lugar School exchange at your home university. Your university will nominate you to our program

Once you are nominated to study at the Hamilton Lugar School, we will send an email inviting you to apply for admission to IU as an international exchange student.

It is important that you begin the first steps as soon as possible because it typically takes a few weeks to process your application after the steps below are completed. There are multiple parts to the application

First, Complete the Hamilton Lugar School Exchange Application. Please email hlsep@iu.edu if you encounter any errors with this form

Second, Apply to Indiana University (IU): The application can be found at this new link. Please email intlexch@iu.edu with questions.

In the application, choose “Hamilton Lugar School” as your academic program and indicate that you are a non-degree college of arts and sciences applicant.  International exchange students pay a $65 application fee.

Under academic goals, select, "I want to take classes as a visiting/non-degree student from another IU Campus, institution, or other educational interest."

See the detailed instructions that were provided in your invitation from the Hamilton Lugar School. A few important things to note in the application:

• When it asks “What is your purpose for attending Indiana University” select “I want to take classes as a visiting/non-degree student”
• When it asks your intended major, select “Arts & Sciences Non-degree”

After submitting the Apply IU Application, you will receive an email with instructions and log-in information to access your IU Admissions Portal. The email can take 3-5 business days to receive.

Following the instructions emailed to you to upload to academic records and English Proficiency scores. These are needed to finish processing your application.

Once you are officially admitted to IU, you will receive an email with log-in instructions for the Atlas Portal. This is the platform you will use as a current IU student.

First, send the application confirmation you receive to hlsep@iu.edu so that the Hamilton Lugar School knows you have applied to Indiana University

Second, use Atlas to upload your financial documentation and passport information. Note: Your checklist may indicate that you need to upload other documents. Please ignore that.
