New documentary urges action on global health justice
Hamilton Lugar School Professor Nicole Hassoun has released a thought-provoking new documentary, Creative Resolve: The Future of Global Health. The work explores how reductions in international aid threaten progress against global health crises and calls for renewed commitments to equity and justice. In the documentary, Hassoun warns, “If we allow these programs to collapse, millions of lives will be at risk. Global health justice isn’t optional—it’s essential.”
On October 28, the documentary was previewed during Global Social Progress Week, sponsored by the International Panel on Social Progress. The session, “Creative resolve in collective action for public health and social progress,” included Hassoun and Precious Matsoso, former chair of the World Health Organization executive board amongst others.
The documentary will also be previewed on the Indiana University campus on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, 12:00–1:30 p.m. in the Indiana Memorial Union, Dogwood Room. The event, The End of USAID and Decline of UNAIDS: The Need for a New Global Health Architecture to Improve our Global Health Impact, is part of the World AIDS Day 2025: A Week of Awareness sponsored by the LGBTQ+ Culture Center and several IU departments, student organizations, and community organizations.
Hassoun is a professor in the Hamilton Lugar School’s Department of International Studies. Her research sits at the intersection of philosophy, economics, and public health. She leads Global Health Impact, an initiative to evaluate and improve access to essential medicines for the global poor.
