Indiana University’s Hamilton Lugar School of Global and International Studies was recently highlighted in Taiwan’s Central News Agency for its role in co-hosting the world’s first Global Taiwan Studies online summer course.
Launched on September 27, this pioneering program represents a groundbreaking collaboration between Indiana University Bloomington and the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Chicago (TECO). Curated by Professor Wang Fei-Hsien, the course, Taiwan’s Past, Present, and Future: Always Closely Connected to the World, brought together more than 60 graduate students and scholars from North America, Europe, Asia, and Australia to explore Taiwan’s global relevance.
The program’s opening ceremony featured remarks from Lei Yanfeng of TECO in Chicago and Indiana Secretary of State Diego Morales, both emphasizing the value of educational and cultural exchange between Taiwan and Indiana.
Through this initiative, part of the Taiwan Studies initiative housed in the East Asian Studies Center, the Hamilton Lugar School of Global and International Studies continues to advance its mission of global engagement. This milestone has now been recognized on the international stage, highlighted by Taiwan’s national media for its leadership in global Taiwan Studies.
